National Service Scheme (N.S.S)
N.S.S has been introduced in the college since 1979. He college has three units. Students are advised to join N.S.S and avail themselves of the chance to serve the country.A student volunteer completing 240 Hours of work during two years of under graduate stage is entitled to an additional weightage of 20% of mark during admission to graduate class.
AIMS OF NSS:
Development of the personality of students through community service.
OBJECTIVES OF NSS:
The broad objectives of NSS are to :-
- Understand the community in which they work.
- Understand themselves in relation to their community.
- Identify the needs and problems of the community and
Involve them in problem-solving process. - Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.
- Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and community problems.
- Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities.
- Gain skills in mobilizing community participation.
- Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude.
- Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters.
- Practice national integration and social harmony.
Any student enrolled as NSS Volunteer should put in at least 120 hours of social work in a year for a continuous period of two years i.e. 240 hours in two years, on different programmes other than special camping. He/She should participate fully in the NSS programmes and should be fully conversant with the each student volunteer is expected to put in a year, at least 20 hours should be utilized in the first year for preplacement orientation programme in the following manner :

Duties of NSS Volunteers
- To establish rapport with the people in the project area adopted village.
- Identify needs, problems and resources of the community. Plan programmes and carry out the plans.
- Relate his / her learning and experience towards finding solutions to the problems identified and
- Record the activities in his / her work diary systematically and assess the progress periodically and effect changes as and when needed.
Code of conduct for NSS Volunteers
- All Volunteers shall work under the guidance of a group leader nominated by the Programme Officer.
- They shall make themselves worthy of the confidence of cooperation of the group/community leadership. They shall scrupulously avoid entering into any controversial issues.
- They shall keep day-to day record of their activities/experience in the enclosing pages of the diary and submit to the Group Leader / Programme officer for periodic guidance.
- It is obligatory on the part of every Volunteer to wear the NSS BADGE while on work.
