Period of Admission
- As per the Odisha Higher Secondary Education Regulation, 1982, no student shall ordinarily be admitted into +2 (1st year) class in an institution SIX WEEKS after the date of reopening of the institution or from the date of publication of the (General) result of the Annual High School Certificate Examination of the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha which is later. However, the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha, Bhubaneswar may permit a student TWO WEEKS more for admission with a late fee of Rs. 20/-
- As per Utkal University Regulation of 1988 no student shall ordinarily be permitted into a college (into +3 classes) after the reopening of the college after Summer Vacation SIX WEEKS after the publication of the (general) result or FOUR WEEKS whichever is later without late fee.
Reservation of Seats
- Eight percent (8%) of the total number of seats for a class is reserved for the candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes.
- Twelve percent (12%) of the total number of sanctioned seats of a class is reserved for candidates belonging to Scheduled Tribes.
- The reserved seats are not interchangeable between SC & ST.
- SC/ST applicants selected for admission on merit shall not be counted against reserved seats.
- 3% of sanctioned seats shall be reserved for physically handicapped / orthopaedically handicapped students. (Extent of handicap not below 40%)
- Two percent (2%) of the total seats shall be kept reserved for the children of bonafide Burma Repatriates.
- Four Percent (4%) of total seats will be kept reserved for the children//wife/husband of Government servants/ Defence service personnel on transfer within the normal time of admission. No seats shall be kept reserved for the children of the employees of Public Sector undertaking.
- One percent (1%) of total seats shall be kept reserved for self/children/wife/husband of ex-servicemen.
Weightage For Admission
For the purpose of admission, weightage will be given to the following categories of applicants:
I. Applicants who are handicapped orthopedically or physically (deaf, dumb or/and blind) will be given weightage of an additional five percent (5%) of the aggregate marks secured by them in the last qualifying examination on production of a certificate from the respective Chief Distrist Medical Officer to the effect that the applicant has a major (50% or more) orthopaedical/Physical handicap and deserves special consideration for admission.
II. N.C.C. cadets holding ‘B’ and ‘C’ Certificates may get an additional weightage of three percent (3%) and five percent (5%) marks respectively over and above the aggregate marks secured by them in the last qualifying examination subject to the condition that additional weightage will not be considered for an applicant who has failed at least once in Higher Secondary / Degree stage and has subsequently passed.
III. Additional weightage of two percent (2%) of marks will be given to Junior Division N.C.C cadets holding A-1 and A-2 Certificates over and above the Agrregate Marks secured by them in the H.S.C Examination for their admission into higher classes.
IV. Applicants representing the President Scouts and Guides will be given weightage of an additional Ten Percent (10%) of marks over and above the aggregate marks secured by them for admission to the 1st year of Higher Secondary classes subject to the production of the respective certificate issued by the President of India.
V. Applicants who have represented the University or the State or the Central School/Sainik School at the All India Level in N.C.C activities will be given weightage of an additional five percent (5%) marks over and above the aggregate marks obtained by them subject to the production of the respective certificate from the Director General of N.C.C/ Director of N.C.C of the sponsoring state which the applicant has represented.
VI. The following categories of sportsmen will be given admission to any School/College and University irrespective of marks secured by them subject to eligibility.
a) Those who have represented the country at the INTERNATIONAL Level shall be given direct admission.
b) Those who have represented the University or the School at the Inter-University or Inter-State Schools shall get 5% weightage over and above the aggregate marks provided that the sports events recognized/organized by the Director of Sports / University / CHSE / BSE will be eligible for the weightage.
c) In order to be eligible for additional weightage in sports, the player concerned should have participated in the respective competitions within two years before the date of application for admission. The weightage relating to sports is not applicable to selection for Honours.
VII. A woman applicant desirous of taking a subject in which there is no teaching facility available in the local women’s college (if any) or if there is no women’s college in the locality, will be given weightage of an additional five percent (5%) over and above the percentage of aggregrate marks obtained by her in the qualifying examination subjectbto the condition that the candidate given such weightage will not ordinarily be allowed to change the subject (s) subsequently.
VIII. Reservation or weightage is not available to SC / ST applicants for admission into the Honours classes.
IX. Weightage for the purpose of admission does not confer any right for preferential treatment in other matters.
Principles of selection procedure for Admission
I. Admission into the college cannot be claimed as a matter of right and may be refused by the Principal without assigning reasons thereof. Conduct of the candidate shall be an important factor in deciding his/her prayer for admission to the college. The decision of the Principal regarding matters pertaining to admission shall be binding and final.
II. Subject to the stipulation made under different paragraphs, the criterion of selection of candidate for admission into all classes shall be on merit. For this purpose the percentage of aggregate marks obtained by the candidates out of the total marks in the qualifying examination shall be the sole basis.
III. The marks secured by the candidate in extra optional 4th optional subject will not be taken into account for determining the aggregrate marks for admission.
IV. For students passing compartmentally the average of the two marks in the subject in which the candidate had failed in the first attempt shall be considered for determining the aggregate marks in the subjects.
V. Selected candidates seeking admission will be informed of their selection in order of merit through dispatch of intimation-letter by registered post. They are required to submit all the documents in original in person in the College Office on the date specified in the intimation-letter to take admission. No relaxation of time shall be entertained.
VI. Selected candidates are required to have the following documents in original with them for admission.
a) Original SLC / CLC with the conduct Certificate.
b) Original mark-sheet and certificate of H.S.C. or Equivalent examination.
c) Three recent passport size photographs duly attested by a gazette officer.
d) All other documents in favour of claiming reservation / weightage.
e) Any other document that the College may require.
VII. The process of admission will continue till the last date of admission or filling up of the total seats whichever is earlier.
VIII. Under no circumstances there will be spot selection.
IX. After commencement of classes, the following documents will be supplied to the students:-
a) Identity Card
b) Library Card
c) Time Table
d) All original documents which are not to be retained by the College.
Procedure for Filling of Vacant Seats on Transfer Certificates
- Admission on transfer to 2nd year of Higher Secondary Classes and 2nd year of 3 year Degree courses are to be made strictly on the basis of merit as reflected in the marks of the qualifying public examination. Admission on transfer in the Mid-Session is not allowed (Not applicable to GSOT).
- No student will be admitted into +3 3rd year class on transfer.
- The applicants for admission into Arts and Commerce classes must have secured a minimum if fifty percent (50%) of aggregate marks in the last qualifying examination. (excluding marks secured in extra / 4th Optional subject).
- The applicants for admission into Science classes must have secured a minimum of sixty percent (60%) of aggregate marks in the last qualifying examination (excluding marks secured in extra / 4th Optional subject).
- Applicants securing less than the minimum percentage of marks specified above need not apply.
Principles for Selection of Honours
- Selection for admission to Honours classes will be made on the basis of aggregate marks (excluding marks secured in 4th Optional) plus marks in the concerned subject.
- In case of students not changing faculty, but applying for Honours in subject which they did not have at the qualifying examination, aggregate marks secured at the qualifying examination should be converted appropriately out of a maximum mark of 1100.
- Marks secured in English will be added to the aggregate in case of candidates who have changed faculty.
- In case of candidate for Oriya Honours who has neither Sanskrit nor Oriya as an Optional subject at the Higher Secondary stage, the procedure should be aggregate marks plus two times of the mark in MIL (O).
- For all subjects the minimum marks for admission into Honours shall be 40 percent in aggregate and 40 percent in the subject concerned. For candidate under Rules (III) and (IV) above 40 percent in aggregate only are to be considered.
- For Science students offering Economics Honours with Economics as 4th optional, the marks secured in Economics or in English or Mathematics (which is higher) are to be added to the aggregate.
- For Commerce students offering Economics Honours, the aggregate plus the marks in Economics shall be considered.
- In case of compartmental candidates, aggregate mark will be calculated by taking the average of the fail and pass mark.
- In case of two students securing the same marks (aggregate & subject) preference would be given to the student securing the same marks (aggregate & subject) preference would be given to the student securing higher marks in the subject.
